Description
Looking for a fun hands-on PBL activity for your math block?
With 15 interactive activities, students will tackle multi-digit addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, multi-step problems, place value, rounding, measurement, graphing, and critical thinking—all in a fun, thematic context! Let’s help your students understand arrays for both multiplication and division with this project-based learning math activity! Using a real-world application on a farm, your students can practice in a hands-on way creating arrays and decomposing them with the distributive property.
Concepts and Skills Covered in This Math PBL:
- Array Creation
- Multiplication Equations
- Repeated Addition
- Distributive Property
- Decomposition
- Real-World Application
- Critical Thinking
- Organizational Skills
What’s Included:
- Three differentiated sets for both pbl projects (beginning, mid, high) 1) pbl project for arrays and 2) project for distributive property
- rubrics
- All student instructions and materials
- Graph paper to print out if you don’t have any graph paper on hand
- Questions & answer keys for each differentiated set
- Reflection piece
- Rubrics for each set
How Is this Project Differentiated?
Three progressive sets:
Set 1: Students are given arrays and multiplication equations. They create and label arrays and then decompose them using the distributive property.
Set 2: Students are given multiplication equations but must create their own arrays. They then decompose these arrays using the distributive property.
Set 3: Students independently create arrays for different animal pens, ensuring at least six different-sized arrays. they decompose these arrays using the distributive property.
